Yeah, well.
I started okay, what with not having the faintest idea of what to write this year. Got up early, fired up my work computer, and wrote some outline. So far so good.
But unfortunately, my work computer, running Ubuntu, can’t detect the onboard sound card, which means I can’t listen to any music while I work. First, I tried to fix that, but I couldn’t find out what kind of motherboard I have (neither lspci nor lshw being any help). So I looked to see if I had a spare sound card. And I did, in a little bag of random hardware. But it didn’t fit in the mother board – but a spare NVidea GeForce 5600 did. That might make things a little prettier, if nothing else…
I am reminded of this XKCD comic.
So yeah. With a little luck, if I just rip the thing out again and delete my xorg.conf, all will be well again.
The day’s not actually over yet, but I don’t have much hope for this particular day. I shall just have to do better from now on in.

I like your makeover! But is that you wearing a red – ie non-black – shirt!?!?!
I missed Day 1 of NaNoWriMo, through sleeping all day. I’d had a very tough week at work, driving 90 mins each way to a shopping centre promo for Canine HElpers, for three days in a row.
Now we’re in Day 2, it’s 7pm, and Australian Idol starts at half past. That could see me 2 days behind….. oh well! I’m sure that once i have a clue what to write about, I’ll be able to get right into it.
Kate.
No sound card? Invest in a gramophone. Not only does it have advantage that you don’t have to worry about your music collection being wiped out when your hard drive goes all floppity and belly-up, but writers notoriously get far too little exercise and the periodic need to walk across to the other side of the room and wind up the gramophone overcomes this.
So do you two have Nanowrimo tracker pages we should be referring to?
In theory, yes, but this year has been a disaster, in that I have done not one word (but a very, very small amount of outlining) since day 1.
My NaNOWriMo was worse! November has turned out to be the most ridiculously busy month at work, so had no time, energy or left over inspiration!
Maybe next year?!?!
I wish I had a busyness excuse… I don’t even have a “lack of writing space” excuse. I just couldn’t seem to get inspired enough to write anything.
