I appear to be the 3546th or so person to get my fifty thousand words this NaNoWriMo! It took me right up until midnight. I usually get my total in five minutes before (in case of network delays), but I discovered I was 25 words behind!!! I’ve never typed faster, I can tell you! It’s a strange thing when you’re writing for word count (or maybe just when I do it); you do what feels the same amount of effort, and sometimes it turns out you’ve only done one hundred words, and sometimes a thousand. It’s very weird.
However, I did get that last 25 words, and when I did my update, suddenly I got the “You’re A Winner” screen!
W00t! Go me!
I am insanely pleased – even though I haven’t really finished The Novel as such, I know I’ve produced quite a lot – something I really wouldn’t have thought I could have done. It’s been a long slog, and there’s been a lot of ups and down – just look at my graph!

You can celebrate along with me by looking at my NaNoWriMo profile, which has a snazzy banner I never saw before. And blue bars over 50k! So very cute! And I’ll probably put one of the winning icons in the page somewhere, when I can be bothered.
On a slightly more serious note, NaNoWriMo does a lot of good work other than organising the Wri itself; every year they set up libraries in places that otherwise might not ever get one. This year it’s Vietnam. So please go check out The NaNoWriMo Donation and Store Page and see if you can feel moved to being generous. I’ve donated myself this year (it seemed only fair); possibly the lure of having a shining halo over your profile pic might not inspire people not NaNoWriMoing themselves, but just think of little kids getting their first introduction to the wonder of books.
Anyway, I don’t want to just stop, especially as December is often referred to as National Novel Finishing Month (but I think it might even take longer than that!); however, I do now have some more spare time for other creative pursuits, including doing some more 3D work.
But tomorrow, I think I may relax

Well done! I hear what you say about December but you made it!
Now the real work – the refinement and editing – begins!
I may not quite make my competition dealine, but I’ve still a few hours left to work on it.
BTW: what is the etymology (and meaning) of the word ‘W00t’ which I see on this site and no-where else much?
It’s a generic shout of joy, common amongst the geeky set. Not sure where it actually came from, but here’s what Wikipedia has to say on the subject.
It is interesting in that it is never to be used in a sarcastic or ironic tone. Only to express actual joy and happiness.
I thought w00t was assumed to come from root, meaning ‘I have attained root access to a computer to which I am not authorized to do so.’
Note sure how the powers that be are expecting to be able to police the no-irony requirement. It may only be applicable to countries with an irony deficit, like the USA.
Congratulations on meeting your Nanowrimo target. I declare December FaFiFxMo (Fan film FX month, pronounced faffy effix mo).

Not the way I use it…
