NaNoWriMo, NaNoWriMo 2006

Well, okay…

Very strange.

I nearly had only the one thing to blog today – that when I got in after work I had 32 Spam emails sitting in my Inbox, having got through whatever Telewest does in the way of filtering, as well as Thunderbird’s filters. Working in the hosting industry as I now do, I’ve become more aware of just how much of a problem Spam is, but this is just a bit beyond!

I was seriously considering not actually writing anything today – I was feeling completely uninspired, as well as tired (as usual), and the past few days’ pathetic totals have left me feeling rather demoralised. However, ’round about 8 or so (Monkey Business on TV, more research!) I picked up the laptop in a “might as well do a few lines” kind of way.

So I was mildly surprised, come 11:40 to discover I’d managed a little over 2100 words. And even more surprised when, as I put in my final tally for the night at 11:55, that had managed 2484 words for the evening.

I think changing scenes helped; I’ve left Sam in charge of three baby chimpanzees, and I think I’d come up against the wall of my ignorance. So now I’m following Butch and Romeo, as they recruit new people to their budding Animal Rights organisation. Sometimes having a fresh subject really helps.

It’s not all good news, however; I seem to have managed to nuke my notes file. In order to get my NaNoWriMo wordcount, I copy and paste the document into a text file and upload that to NaNoWriMo; it seems that at some point I accidentally pasted it into my notes text file instead. Oops. I guess I’ll just have to reconstruct it all when (if) I come to revise all this…

But in other news – over half way! W00t! I doubt I’ll get 30000 by the end of tomorrow (as I’ve been hitting 10000 per five days up until this week), but we’ll see.
